“You knew exactly what you were saying with your ‘terribly white’ comment, Adjoa”

Ustreme founder, comedian Jim Davidson, has blasted Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh for her description of the Buckingham Palace balcony on Coronation Day as “terribly white” – and insisted she knew exactly what she was saying with her “race baiting” comments.

Ofcom has been flooded with complaints after she made the comments to ITV on the day of King Charles’ Coronation.

On Jim’s latest episode of This Week, filmed for his Ustreme streaming channel, he said: “We have a woman of colour who was in a programme called Bridgerton, sitting on one of the panels the other day and she said that the balcony of the Coronation was “terribly white”.

“Why would she say that? Because there were no black people in the Royal Family there on the balcony? Well, we have got a black person in the Royal Family and she chooses not to turn up. What does that say about that person?

“And what does it say about you, Adjoa Andoh, that you had to start the race-baiting?

“Are you saying that all of the Royal Family should become black in the future, or should we just slot a few people in just for the sake of it? The Royal Family happens to be white by birth. Shame on you.

“Why are you causing trouble? And now you’re back-peddling, saying you didn’t mean to offend certain people. You knew exactly what you were saying.”

The actress has addressed the backlash to her comments and said that she “didn’t mean to upset anyone”.

Adjoa, who plays Lady Danbury in the Netflix series Bridgerton, had been appearing during the ITV live coverage of the Coronation when she revealed her thoughts.

The 60-year-old, who has Ghanian heritage, has since said: “I think I upset a few people yesterday.

“I was talking about the day and how marvellous it was and then looking at the balcony at the end and suddenly going: ‘Oh it’s so white!’ because the day had been so mixed and I didn’t mean to upset anybody.”
